Family Support Network
KMTS works with the Hamlets and AEM to build support networks for families dealing with fly-in/fly out working conditions – One of the largest needs is retaining and securing long term employment in the region.
Literacy & Essential Skills
This program is focused on improving literacy and essential skills of adults in the Kivalliq Region. KMTS has contracted Nunavut Literacy Council for their Miqqut Project in the region, once in Rankin Inlet and once in Arviat. The Miqqut Project brings women together who are interested in getting traditional sewing skills with embedded literacy. Families of mine workers will have first priority. This project will actively address learning and literacy issues that may be holding back Inuit Kivalliqmiut in the labour market.
Working with Hamlets to develop Inter-agency collaboration to identify community needs, propose programming ideas, engage local resources, assist in promoting and recruitment activities and play an active role in program delivery.
